Mercedes Drops EQE and Other Models From U.S. Lineup for 2027

Mercedes’ electric-vehicle strategy has struggled in the United States, where buyers have shown little enthusiasm for the EQE, EQS, and their crossover counterparts. The automaker now appears ready to acknowledge that lack of demand, with several models reportedly set to disappear for 2027.

Citing a company spokesperson, Car & Driver reports that the EQE and AMG EQE are being discontinued. The EQE 320+ started at $64,950 and delivered 315 hp (235 kW / 319 PS), with an electric range of up to 308 miles (496 km).

The $96,600 AMG EQE used a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system that produced as much as 677 hp (505 kW / 686 PS) with its boost function activated. It could reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.2 seconds, although its range fell to a disappointing 230 miles (370 km).

Although the EQE is leaving the lineup, Mercedes is developing an all-new E-Class Electric. The model will adopt a more conventional design influenced by the fully electric C-Class.

The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV is also being discontinued. Priced from $180,000, it used a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 649 hp (484 kW / 658 PS) and 700 lb-ft (948 Nm) of torque. The motors drew energy from a 118 kWh battery pack, providing 300 miles (483 km) of range.

The Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance will likewise disappear for 2027. The expensive plug-in hybrid generated 791 hp (590 kW / 802 PS) and 1,055 lb-ft (1,430 Nm) of torque, but Mercedes has recently launched a facelifted S-Class.

That suggests a new AMG variant could arrive in the near future. Car & Driver reports that it may debut in roughly a year and abandon plug-in hybrid technology in favor of pure V8 power.

Mercedes is reducing its U.S. lineup after weak customer interest in several electric models. The EQE and AMG EQE will reportedly leave the market, while the Maybach EQS 680 SUV and AMG S63 E Performance will also disappear for 2027. An electric E-Class is planned, and a future AMG S-Class variant could return to a V8-only powertrain.
