Mitsubishi L200 Returns to Europe After Five Years Away

Mitsubishi ended sales of the previous-generation L200 in Europe in 2021, while the Triton launched in 2023 without reaching the Old Continent. That changes this year, with the L200 arriving in mainland Europe and the UK to compete against the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux.

The L200 looks the same as the Triton, apart from its tailgate badge. Its European range is considerably more limited than in other markets and is offered exclusively with a dual-cab body. In Germany, buyers can choose the L200 Diamant with steel wheels or the L200 Diamant Top, which adds black alloy wheels and glossy black trim between the grille and split LED headlights. In the UK, the range consists of the entry-level L200 Titan and the top-spec L200 Barbarian, whose appearance is similar to the high-spec Triton GSR.

Elsewhere, the Triton is sold in the more capable Raider specification in Australia, while Brazil offers special versions including the luxury Terra, rugged BF///MS, and rally-inspired Triton Savana Sertões. In Thailand, the pickup is available in additional body styles and features a market-specific front end on the Street trim.

The five-seat interior is relatively basic and has remained unchanged since the Triton debuted in 2023. Standard equipment includes an 8-inch infotainment screen, a 360-degree camera, and several ADAS features.

European-market L200s are powered exclusively by a non-electrified 2.4-liter biturbo diesel developing 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 470 Nm (347 lb-ft) of torque. Depending on the trim, it is paired either with a six-speed manual transmission and part-time Easy Select 4WD, or a six-speed automatic and permanent Super Select 4WD-II with a lockable rear differential.

The diesel-only Japanese pickup could eventually receive a hybrid powertrain, likely shared with the mechanically related Mitsubishi Pajero. The system is not expected until closer to the end of the decade and would likely arrive alongside a substantial mid-cycle update.

German dealers will receive the Mitsubishi L200 in November, with prices starting at €39,990 ($45,900) for the Diamant and €52,990 ($60,800) for the Diamant Top. The pickup is already on sale in the UK, where the L200 Titan starts at £36,295 ($48,500) and the flagship L200 Barbarian costs £39,995 ($53,500).
