The Porsche Cayenne Electric is adding several new features for the new model year, including electrically operated doors, wireless home charging, and a more advanced massage-seat system. Buyers can also choose from 105 exterior colors. The powered driver’s door, however, may be the most attention-grabbing addition for anyone who considers closing a door or connecting a charging cable an unnecessary chore.

Optional powered doors use servo motors to open or close after a short pull of the handle. Occupants can also operate them using cabin buttons, the infotainment system, the exterior handles, or Porsche’s Digital Key. The driver may not need to use any of those controls: the Cayenne can close the driver’s door when the seat belt is fastened or the brake pedal is pressed, adding a touch of private-jet flair to the SUV’s start-up routine. The doors also include an important safety feature.

Sensors scan the area around the vehicle and stop the doors if they identify a person or obstacle. The system works with the Cayenne’s exit-warning technology as well, helping prevent a door from opening into oncoming traffic. Porsche says the powered doors operate on inclines, while manual operation is still possible.

Porsche Wireless Charging eliminates the need to handle a charging cable. The system uses a weatherproof ground pad suitable for indoor or outdoor installation. After the Cayenne is positioned correctly, charging begins automatically at up to 11 kW, with Porsche claiming energy-transfer efficiency of about 90 percent.

Motion sensors and foreign-object detection can stop the charging process if a person or animal comes near, or if a metal object falls onto the pad and starts to heat up. The system can now be ordered in Germany and selected European markets, with availability in other markets planned in stages. Porsche has not announced US availability or pricing.

Cayenne Electric’s Massage Seats Add Music-Synchronized Vibrations

The front seats are available with 16 air cushions and six sound actuators per seat. They offer five massage programs, while the actuators create vibrations timed to music for what Porsche describes as a “4D” audio experience. Three further wellness modes combine massage, vibration, and curated soundscapes.

Paint to Sample adds 92 colors to the Cayenne Electric’s 13 standard shades, creating a total palette of 105 colors. Porsche has not disclosed pricing for these options, though buyers should not expect the extensive list of extras to be inexpensive.
