Aside from the new Genesis GV90 Neolun, coach doors are most closely associated with Rolls-Royce models. Shortly before the Covid-19 pandemic, however, Lincoln introduced its own coach-door sedan, and one of these rare cars is now seeking a new owner.

Officially named the Continental 80th Anniversary Coach Door Edition, the model was created by Massachusetts-based Cabot Coach Builders. The company lengthened the Continental to make it better suited to chauffeur-driven use. Production was limited to 80 cars, all based on the Continental Black Label.

In addition to receiving coach doors for the rear passengers, the Lincoln’s wheelbase was extended by a substantial six inches. Its structure was reinforced to handle the added length and prevent the car from behaving like an unwieldy limousine. Most notably, the longer wheelbase does not upset the Continental’s proportions; arguably, it gives the car a more attractive appearance than the standard model.

The second row features heated, ventilated, and reclining seats, along with inflatable seat belts. Rear sun shades and an LCD screen allow passengers to adjust the audio and climate-control systems. Like the front cabin, the rear is finished in Jet Black Venetian leather with Chilean maple wood trim.

A buyer considering a Rolls-Royce or Bentley is unlikely to compare either car directly with a Lincoln like this. Still, among luxury American sedans, the Continental Coach Door Edition is especially intriguing. With an MSRP of $114,685, it was also one of the most expensive models available when it launched.

Bring a Trailer is currently offering this example, which has covered 2,400 miles (3,862 km) and is number 48 of the 80 cars produced. It appears to be in good condition, though the listing mentions an open recall for a foggy rear-view camera, which does not appear to have been replaced.
