Updated BMW X3 M50 xDrive Gains 44 HP and a Stealthy Black Package

The Neue Klasse BMW iX3 may be attracting much of the attention, but BMW continues to develop its combustion-powered X3. Introduced in 2024, the latest generation has not received a full X3 M variant. Instead, BMW has upgraded the range-topping X3 M50 xDrive with additional power and an exclusive Black Package.

The key 2027 update is found beneath the hood. The X3 M50 xDrive continues with its mild-hybrid turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six, but output increases by 44 hp (33 kW / 45 PS) to 437 hp (326 kW / 443 PS), matching the new M350 sedan.

With the added output, the X3 M50 xDrive completes the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) run in 4.4 seconds. That is 0.2 seconds quicker than the outgoing model and leaves it just 0.3 seconds behind the discontinued X3 M Competition. The revised powertrain also complies with Euro 7 emissions regulations, supporting the SUV’s continued availability in the European market.

Black Package adds a darker appearance

The optional Black Package is available exclusively on the X3 M50 xDrive. It keeps the standard M Sport bumpers and quad exhaust outlets, while adding black 22-inch alloy wheels, high-gloss black brake calipers, and matching badges with contrasting silver outlines.

Customers seeking a more pronounced aerodynamic treatment can still equip the X3 with the M Performance parts introduced in 2024.

Inside, the package adds black Alcantara trim from BMW Individual across the dashboard, door cards, portions of the seats, and the center armrest. The seats combine Veganza upholstery with blue stitching and piping, plus embossed M logos on the headrests. The quickest new X3 also receives black floor mats with blue piping, a leather patch on the M steering wheel, and crystal-like CraftedClarity controls.

BMW has also made smaller changes across the wider X3 family. The updates include PVC Softskin trim ahead of the infotainment display, revised instrument-panel stitching, a redesigned glove box release, and more extensive ambient lighting.

The M Sport and M Performance versions now feature Dark Silver door sills with black M logos. The X3 30e xDrive and X3 M50 xDrive gain protective stainless-steel boot-sill trim, while the entry-level four-cylinder engine in the X3 20 xDrive has been revised to meet Euro 7 requirements.

For 2027, BMW has enhanced the X3 M50 xDrive with 437 hp, improving its 0-100 km/h sprint to 4.4 seconds while bringing the powertrain in line with Euro 7 regulations. An exclusive Black Package adds dark exterior and interior details, and the wider X3 range receives revised trim, lighting, and equipment updates.
